Blend. Meld. Unison. Sameness. These are words that come to mind when AREPO reflects upon common musical units. The standard quartet, made up of two violins, a viola, and a cello, all come from the same instrument family, likewise with a brass quintet or a choir. The sounds that can be created when the instruments are similar is powerful. The unison is bold and forthright, and the timbre is clear and distinct.

Yet, though the world has found strength in commonality, there is also strength in contrast. Difference creates a disruption to the expected, and opposition, though extreme, can only exist without its partner pairing. Accordion and clarinet, two reed instruments, cello and guitar, two strings; this is AREPO. We are an ensemble that holds both the strength of uniformity and polarity.

This concert is an exploration of our Sounds, Strings, and Reeds, a deep dive into what can merge and what can detach. What is AREPO's sound? Perhaps an inseparable musical unit, perhaps a conglomerate of paradoxical noise. Come November 18th at 19 PM and decide for yourself.
